June Song of the Month - On the Road
On May 30, 2018 the Philadelphia music scene lost a notable musician when Mike McKendry of the McKendry Brothers Band, passed.
He was a super rhythm guitarist, a great front man, an excellent singer and a bandleader who knew his audience and what they wanted to hear.
I was lucky enough to know Mike and play music with him as one of the Bunker Boys who met on Tuesday nights at the Andy Maher weekly gatherings. To honor him, this month's Song of the Month is: On The Street, which I wrote with Andy Maher in 2014. This song has a great lead. A whistle. Mike McKendry was the whistler. It was recorded at Daoud Shaw’s, Radio Active Studio. Mike wanted to meet Daoud and I thought this was a great way to put them together.
